At the Merle Catherine Chambers Center for the Advancement of Women, women and girls of all ages and from diverse backgrounds come together to imagine and build a better future.
Opened in 2004, this $9 million, 32,000 square foot center houses two of Colorado's leading proponents for the education and advancement of women and girls – Colorado Women's College and the Women's Foundation of Colorado.
Named for Merle Chambers, whose family foundation contributed the lead gift toward the construction of the facility, the building is located on the University of Denver campus at 1901 East Asbury St.
With numerous classrooms, office spaces, multi-purpose meeting and conference rooms, a technology center and two gathering rooms, the Chambers Center serves the needs of many groups and organizations dedicated to the advancement of women.
The Hirschfeld Gallery, housed on the main floor of the Chambers Center, is an ever-changing exhibit space featuring artwork by female artists, many of whom are from Colorado. This gallery, which stretches the length of the building and allows for art to be displayed on both sides, can accommodate up to 12 exhibits per year, with up to 22 works of art displayed at any given time. Featured art and artists follow the Chambers Center theme and overall dialogue – promoting the education and advancement of women and girls.
